There's a time in every pickleball journey where all is fresh and new. it was here I discovered the self-facing camera angle, Ryan, and the budding pickleball scene in Hawaii. (2026) The need to develop a proficient 3rd shot drop and dink game is undoubtedly essential when playing with more experienced and skilled players (especially in Doubles), but I've noticed a lot of people abandoning their strengths and forgetting what their "go to" shot is. I think it's an absolute must to be able to switch up your gameplay according to various situations and opponents' strengths (and weaknesses). So if your strength is a fast and hard forehand topspin, by all means use it, and use it often. Just be sure to keep your opponents guessing by continuously switching up your shot selection. On another note, USA PICKLEBALL used to heavily use the tagline, "Join the Fun" - as Pickleball was at its core an INCLUSIVE sport, meaning the pickleball culture was so hungry, hopeful to grow. I knew we were sitting on something very special; these days I call it, "The Sport of a Lifetime" - as it sheds worth for a number of our basic human needs, such as physical activity, social relations, competition, routine, sunshine, goals, and progression. I guess we got what we wanted,...but perhaps a little too quickly! Overall pickle culture has shifted polarity with the growing new culture of EXCLUSIVITY = cliques, DUPR, disappearing OPEN PLAY availability, inflated price of everything (tournaments, paddles and playing fees. Not too long ago I was always the youngest one on the pickleball courts. Today I sometimes find myself the oldest…which really shows just how quickly this sport is evolving.
